When most people thing of Macau, they think of casinos. I think of temples (OK, and egg tarts). Spiral incense is big in Macau temples, and although it is possibly one of the most oft-photographed features of SE Asia, I still like to photograph it. The paper tags inside the spirals usually have peoples’ names written on them. Anyone wishing good luck or specific intentions for a family member or friend will pay the temple to burn one of the incense spirals with the name of the wish’s beneficiary inside.
