Aveo, it’s the name of a model of Chrysler (which lends credence to my belief that car manufacturers will one day run out of dictionary words for model names and have to invent new ones). The model was unveiled before the expectant eyes of billions of Chinese people this evening in Shanghai. The show was impressive, with a foreign actress (always a hit in China even if no one knows exactly who she is), a team of precision dancers, and two motorcycles thrown in for good measure (?).

BMW never understates its new vehicle launches. This one in the southern city of Zhuhai (across the border from Macau) involved helicopters, stunt teams, a massive back-screen, and Wang Han (currently China’s greatest teen TV idol). I got to be a passenger in 0ne of the 7-litre super-fast cars while the stunt driver let loose. Unfortunately I only managed some blurred shots of my grinning face and half the rear vision mirror during the ride.

The Performance Theatre is a bit of a strange name. This event was a gathering of particularly money-minded people from around the world in Beijing. They hired out the Great Hall of the People and Diaoyutai (the place where Mao met Nixon) and talked for three days about wealth and did a lot of mutual back-patting. The official topic of the convention was “Sustainability”, but there was very little discussion of this in the usually accepted sense.
